Whether you're new to paddleboarding or a seasoned pro, we’ve got you covered! Our friendly staff can guide you every step of the way, making sure you feel confident and comfortable on the water. If you are new to the sport, let us know and we will provide a brief lesson on the beach to get you safely on the water for your family-friendly paddleboarding adventure at the best place to paddleboard in the Los Angeles area.

  • Paddleboards are for use in Marina del Rey harbor only. no open ocean.

Mother’s Beach to the Marina Breakwall and back is 4.6 miles. It takes the average paddler about 1.5 hours. Winds and weather may change, plan your rental accordingly.

Paddle Board Rental FAQs – Mother’s Beach, Marina del Rey

  • Yes. Mother’s Beach in Marina del Rey sits inside the harbor, which means flat water, minimal current, and no ocean surf. That protected setting makes it one of the most beginner-friendly places to paddle board in Los Angeles. Most first-time paddlers are standing within minutes.

  • No prior experience is required. Our boards are wide and stable, and our team walks you through positioning, balance, and steering before you launch. If you’ve never been on a board before, this is a forgiving place to learn.

  • One hour gives you time to explore the calm waters near Mother’s Beach and get comfortable on the board. Two hours allows you to paddle deeper into the harbor and explore boat slips, wildlife zones, and quiet corners of the marina.

  • Yes, especially when launching from Mother’s Beach. The harbor is protected from open ocean swell, and the launch area is set back from main boat traffic. We recommend staying out of the center of the channel and paddling along the calmer edges of the marina.

  • Mornings tend to offer the calmest water conditions. Early afternoon can also be beautiful, with clear light reflecting off the marina. Weekdays are typically quieter than weekends.

  • Yes. Many families choose Mother’s Beach because of the gradual shoreline and calm water. Younger kids often ride on a parent’s board, while older children can paddle independently depending on size and comfort level.

  • We launch directly from Mother’s Beach in Marina del Rey at the end of Basin D. There is no rocky entry, no surf break, and no steep drop-off. You walk your board straight into calm water.

  • Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends and during warmer months. Walk-ups are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Yes. We regularly host corporate team building outings, birthday gatherings, school groups, and wellness meetups. Mother’s Beach provides an easy meeting point with calm conditions that work well for mixed experience levels.

  • Yes. We are located in the parking lot of the Jamaica Bay Inn, adjacent to Marina public lot #10 within short walking distance of our launch location. On busy weekends, arriving early makes parking easier.

  • Marina del Rey is home to sea lions, harbor seals, pelicans, and a wide range of coastal birds. Paddling quietly through the marina often brings you close to resting sea life and dockside wildlife.
